Introduction

The spiritual life enhancing quotes below are inspired by the shamans of ancient Mexico. They were masters in enhancing their awareness, redistributing their energy and build up their personal power. They were truly warriors and in no way comparable to the average men and women of the modern world. They teach us that we are in fact very practical beings and that everything we need is just in front of us, if we could only see.

Their teachings can still be used today. We are still all warriors with struggles and battles. Our problem is that we indulge too much in the outcome. We either win or lose but only in the battle were alive, alert, aware, focused, powerful and concentrated. That is where we grow and achieve marvelous things. Of course we aim at a certain outcome of things but to indulge in a lost battle or even a won battle makes us vulnerable and weak. In such a state we're easily punched down. I don't mean that you can't celebrate your winnings. You don't have to take all that is written here too literally. It's more a mood, the mood of a warrior and it's very subtle and very difficult to achieve. But if you do, anything is possible! You be able to see whatever you want to see.

Powerful Quotes

  • “The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.”
  • “The internal dialogue is what grounds people in the daily world. The world is such and such or so and so, only because we talk to ourselves about its being such and such and so and so. The passageway into the world of shamans opens up after the warrior has learned to shut off his internal dialogue.”
  • “To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other.”
  • “A man of knowledge lives by acting, not by thinking about acting.”
  • “All paths are the same, leading nowhere. Therefore, pick a path with heart!”
  • “The only thing that is real is the being in you that is going to die.”
  • “When a warrior learns to stop the internal dialogue, everything becomes possible; the most far-fetched schemes become attainable.”
  • “Feeling important makes one heavy, clumsy and vain. To be a warrior one needs to be light and fluid.”
  • “A warrior seeks to act rather than talk.”
  • “When a man has fulfilled all four of these requisites—to be wide awake, to have fear, respect, and absolute assurance—there are no mistakes for which he will have to account; under such conditions his actions lose the blundering quality of the acts of a fool. If such a man fails, or suffers a defeat, he will have lost only a battle, and there will be no pitiful regrets over that.”
  • “If a warrior is to succeed at anything, the success must come gently, with a great deal of effort but with no stress or obsession.”
  • “Personal history must be constantly renewed by telling parents, relatives, and friends everything one does. On the other hand, for the warrior who has no personal history, no explanations are needed; nobody is angry or disillusioned with his acts. And above all, no one pins him down with their thoughts and their expectations.”
  • “An average man is too concerned with liking people or with being liked himself. A warrior likes, that’s all. He likes whatever or whomever he wants, for the hell of it.”
  • “The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge, while an ordinary man takes everything as a blessing or a curse.”
  • “A warrior lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting.”
  • “The spirit of a warrior is not geared to indulging and complaining, nor is it geared to winning or losing. The spirit of a warrior is geared only to struggle, and every struggle is a warrior’s last battle on earth. Thus the outcome matters very little to him. In his last battle on earth a warrior lets his spirit flow free and clear. And as he wages his battle, knowing that his intent is impeccable, a warrior laughs and laughs.”
  • “A warrior doesn’t know remorse for anything he has done, because to isolate one’s acts as being mean, or ugly, or evil is to place an unwarranted importance on the self.”
  • "Things don't change, only the way you look at them."
  • "Beware of those who weep with realization, for they have realized nothing."
  • "Think about it: what weakens us is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of our fellow men. Our self-importance requires that we spend most of our lives offended by someone."
  • "Through dreaming we can perceive other worlds, which we can certainly describe, but we can't describe what makes us perceive them. Yet we can feel how dreaming opens up those other realms. Dreaming seems to be a sensation--a process in our bodies, an awareness in our minds."
  • "Death is the only wise adviser that we have. Whenever you feel, as you always do, that everything is going wrong and you're about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if that is so. Your death will tell you that you're wrong; that nothing really matters outside its touch. Your death will tell you, 'I haven't touched you yet."
  • “The self-confidence of the warrior is not the self-confidence of the average man. The average man seeks certainty in the eyes of the onlooker and calls that self-confidence. The warrior seeks impeccability in his own eyes and calls that humbleness. The average man is hooked to his fellow men, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.”

Where do the quotes come from?

The Warrior Quotes written above are taken from the books of Carlos Castaneda. For many years he was a student of Don Juan Matus, a shaman/sorcerer of the ancient Mexico. These books are the most powerful books I have ever read and changed my life completely. These quotes were mostly used by Don Juan Matus to alter Castaneda's view of the world. Castaneda has compiled them in his book "The Wheel Of Time". This book is great for people who are interested in the teachings and is also a great introduction to the complete works of Castaneda.

Carlos Castaneda

Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn't, it is of no use.

Fascinating stuff. It resonates with me in a special way. I'm sure everyone can benefit, but as a guy, I feel that men especially can better their lives with the mindset of a "warrior."

My favorite quotations from above are:

“The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.”

“If a warrior is to succeed at anything, the success must come gently, with a great deal of effort but with no stress or obsession.”

“A man of knowledge lives by acting, not by thinking about acting.”

-- Interesting, because we often believe in "thinking before we act." I'm learning in my own life that too much forethought stifles action and progress.

“A warrior lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting.”

-- More powerful stuff, along the same lines. I definitely think too much!

"Things don't change, only the way you look at them."

“If a warrior is to succeed at anything, the success must come gently, with a great deal of effort but with no stress or obsession.”

-- Great piece of wisdom. It's comforting actually, because we feel like we must put HARD work into what we want, and "hard" implies stress, anxiety, pressure, expectations, headaches, deadlines. The only thing that really matters is continual action, so why not try to enjoy the process?

Excellent hub, rated up.

@BennyTheWriter, kind of you to share your favorites.

I'll share another one that should have been on the list. I'm sure you'll love it.

"Whenever a warrior decides to do something he must go all the way, but he must take responsibility for what he does. No matter what he does, he must know first why he is doing it, and then he must proceed with his actions without having doubts or remorse about them. In a world where death is the hunter, there is no time for regrets or doubts. There is only time for decisions. It doesn’t matter what the decisions are. Nothing could be more or less serious than anything else. In a world where death is the hunter, there are no small or big decisions. There are only decisions that a warrior makes in the face of his inevitable death."

thanks for stopping by;)

This is an inspiring statement on its own.

"We are still all warriors with struggles and battles. Our problem is that we indulge too much in the outcome. We either win or lose but only in the battle were alive, alert, aware, focused, powerful and concentrated. That is where we grow and achieve marvelous things"

@Yeshuan that is a statement, right? I really think that true knowledge comes from action. Sure you can read about anything in the world and learn from it but unless you're not using your knowledge in the "battle", it's useless.

Great quotes, I feel charged up for the day ahead now. I have read several of Castaneda's books and found them very fascinating. I did hear that he made up a lot of the stuff. Still, the teachings seem true.

Thank you my friend for sharing these powerful quotes. I believe they have the potential to wake us up to who-we-really-are. I remember the quote, "Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn't, it is of no use" being recited by Jack Kornfield. This quote really resonated with me. Thank you for sharing this post to the world.
